Charity work

The RSPB

In my role as Digital News Editor at the RSPB, I was responsible for planning, writing, and editing content for the fortnightly Notes on Nature newsletter, which reaches an impressive 1.3 million subscribers. I led the news section of the organisation's newly launched website, overseeing the planning and editing of features and news stories to ensure they were both engaging and informative. I also regularly commissioned content from copywriters and industry experts. This role involved close collaboration with stakeholders, partners, and media teams to effectively disseminate environmental and conservation news. Under my leadership, we achieved a significant milestone by increasing the subscriber rate by 100,000 within just six months, growing from 1.2 million to 1.3 million subscribers.

Tree Aid

When I found myself furloughed at the beginning of the pandemic, I decided that I wanted to do something worthwhile and productive with my time, and so I volunteered as a website copywriter for Bristol-based environmental charity, Tree Aid. During this time, I edited pre-existing copy to fit the wireframe for their new website, and also crafted new content using technical information supplied by people working on the ground across The Sahel region of Africa.

Protecting the Wof Washa Forest

This is an example of one of the pages I crafted from scratch for Tree Aid. The key here was to digest all of the technical information supplied and turn it into something that is both enjoyable (and easy!) to read, while keeping it informative, and of course, search engine optimised.
